Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
