Ex- BBC Consultants Undergo Members of Parliament's Questioning After Assertions of Partiality in Leaked Document

Former BBC consultants testifying at parliamentary committee

We start with queries from Conservative lawmaker Caroline Dinenage, that oversees the panel.

She initiates by providing details to the leaked memo written by Michael Prescott and released in a national newspaper.

"It is not my wish for the British Broadcasting Corporation leaning toward one side or the other, My only wish is for it neutral, impartial and just," he says.

Upon being questioned whether he thinks the BBC is systematically partial, he replies: "Absolutely not. Let's be clear, a great deal the BBC creates is exceptional - including factual and fictional content."

But he adds: "There exists real work that needs to be done at the British Broadcasting Corporation."

The second former external British Broadcasting Corporation adviser questioned by the panel, Caroline Daniel, remarks she takes the British Broadcasting Corporation very seriously and that it operates a "persistent practice and lively discussion" regarding evolving and intricate issues.

"Was the BBC ready to conduct a genuine discussion and debate and act accordingly?" she asks herself. "As I see it, indeed, they were."
