Liverpool Refuses to Change Attacking Style Despite Current Struggles, Says Head Coach Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the poor performance streak and he has no intention of discarding their forward-thinking philosophy in pursuit of a turnaround. The manager admitted that six defeats in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Growing Expectations During Difficult Period
Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his rotated squad exited the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"We share common perspectives," stated Slot, whose side will meet the Spanish giants in the continental tournament and visit the Citizens in the domestic competition.
Player Depth Remains Unquestioned
The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the schedule ahead". He mentioned that the transfer window acquisitions in talents including the German international and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the long-term future".
Integration Challenges
When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'Why, why, why?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with multiple factors why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."
- No matter if I could come up with numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- In truth six out of seven
Defensive Numbers
Only the Clarets (21) have allowed more significant openings from regular play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The first-place team, the North London club, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and maintains there is no basis to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after ten fixtures without a shutout.
"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I see no justification to alter our approach entirely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he said.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a effort at our net. In each fixture we played until now we haven't given up a many opportunities. Not at all. We do allow a somewhat more than the prior term but that is related to us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't believe that our problem is that we give up too many openings. Our challenge is we don't score the opportunities we generate."
