Los Angeles Erupts in Celebration as Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed citywide celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-game World Series title. Supporters across the globe joined Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a franchise has achieved consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Attracts Massive Turnout
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos depict thousands of Angelenos packing city center avenues, many carrying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy proudly.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the team walked out to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Celebrations began well before the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the streets of the city center on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the win.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
In contrast, Mark Walter received a less warm reception at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of cheers and boos, with jeers punctuating his address.
The championship served as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An estimated quarter-million people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, supporters this year demonstrated equal or greater enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” Freeman remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
