Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
