President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to suspend refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
