Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and picked up a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
