Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is out of work which means Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
