Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period like this with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
