Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be true Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League home defeat of the year.

However the primary talking point was Fulham's next goal when Vicario gave away possession well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.

However, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

One of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently booed the situation and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated about the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] cannot be real Tottenham fans that do that. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind each other going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a early lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.

Ex- Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I do understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Match

Italy national team the keeper is in his third season with Spurs.

He said after the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"The second score was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an more difficult challenge to climb."

He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on the team to remain increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and calmness to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it's hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an easy score for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant top division goal of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also came on the same day.

Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.

10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," he said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest sparked a bit.

"Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little additional opportunity. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to come before the close of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred since the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a high profile job at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
