The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
